The Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health (OWH) is pleased to provide access to the National Women's Health Indicators Database (NWHID). This system permits those interested in the health status of women, and, in fact, the entire population of the US, to have access to comparative, county-level data for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and US territories and possessions.
For best viewing and results, please use Internet Explorer (IE). If IE is not available on your computer, please use the latest version of the browser on your system. Use of other browsers (e.g., Netscape) may result in poor image quality and in the loss of certain graphics entirely.
Data in the system are available by gender, race and ethnicity and, to the extent possible, age. Data have been collected from local, state, regional and national sources. These data come from the best sources available at both the national (e.g., CDC, US Census Bureau) and local levels (e.g., state health departments). Care has been taken to ensure consistency of definitions across the sources, the data have been compared to other references, and outside reviewers have commented on the database and the assembly process.
Data in the system are organized into the following categories:
| - Codes and Status | - Demographics |
| - Mortality | - Access to Care |
| - Infectious/Chronic Disease | - Reproductive Health |
| - Maternal Health | - Mental Health |
| - Violence and Abuse | - Prevention |
There are many subcategories of data contained within each of these areas.
